About Us

Frustrated by increasing numbers of children "falling through the cracks", members of the Washington County Coalition for Children (WCCC) focus our efforts on filling the gaps in services in Washington County, Rhode Island. We foster change through three major activities:
  1. Studying the needs of children and families in the community;
  2. Sponsoring open forums to engage the community and gather wide-ranging input; and
  3. Creating work groups to address priority issues.
The WCCC is unique because...
  • We have a regional focus rather than town-specific or statewide.
  • We do not restrict our activities to specific age groups or specific needs.
  • We base our initiatives on real data from our comprehensive needs assessments.
  • We use a collaborative, community, consensus building approach to problem-solving.
WCCC membership is open to anyone who wishes to participate. By offering membership to anyone interested, we have engaged a broad cross-section of community members, all of whom are committed to facilitating change. Coalition members include parents, residents, line staff and administrators from local agencies, retired professors and doctors, and consultants in various related fields. The WCCC's work moves beyond creating public awareness of children's issues to undertaking tangible projects that address compelling community needs.
