Our Priorities

Based upon research and community input, the WCCC has identified five priority issues for children and families in Washington County and established work groups to address these issues:

  • Parent Education & Support - Expanding parent support services in an effort to avoid out-of-home     placements - Family Support Council.

  • Children's Mental Health - Addressing gaps in available children's mental health services - Children's     Mental Health Advisory Board.

  • Child Care & After-School Programming - Increasing staff training and the area's capacity to provide     child care and after-school programming to children with special needs - Child Care and After-School     Programming Work Group.

  • Affordable Housing - collaborating in regional planning to increase the supply of affordable housing and     improving access to information about housing and other resources through a web-based clearinghouse.

  • Prenatal Care - Ensuring that women in Westerly receive adequate prenatal care - Delayed Prenatal Care     Work Group.

  • See work group members.

The Coalition holds Children's Issues Forums annually each spring to review progress and garner community input about these priorities.
